South Whidbey High School student spends a week in the Legislature
James Itaya served as a page in the House of Representatives April 15-19. James, 16, was sponsored by 10th District Rep. Norma Smith. He attends South Whidbey High School and is the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Itaya of Clinton.
“James is a bright, capable and inspirational young leader with integrity and vision,” said Smith, R-Clinton. “His contribution and service to the legislative process was a great help, along with the other terrific students who served us so effectively.”
Each day, James attended page school to learn about the legislative process. As part of his duties, he distributed documents and notes to lawmakers and staff on the House floor, as well as around the Capitol campus.
Students between the ages of 14 and 16 who are interested in the page program must have parent permission, acceptable grades and a legislative sponsor. Pages earn $35 per day while serving in the program.
